There’s a lot of magic that goes into building a home, the design conversations and finishing touches. But Morgan sees what’s behind the framing – the work that’s a little less glamorous: in the spreadsheets, tax filings, and the behind-the-scenes systems that make it all possible.
Morgan came to Chuckanut Builders through a post-pandemic pivot. After years in restaurants and food manufacturing, she spotted an office manager role at a company she already knew of and admired. “If I was going to take a big risk, I wanted some familiarity,” she explains. What surprised her was how naturally it all clicked. Construction had been around her whole life, through family projects and restaurant development – she just hadn’t realized her skills would be such a great match.
She walked in during a time of big transition for Chuckanut Builders, taking on bigger more complex projects and hungry for structure to support these larger-scale projects. Morgan was ready for the challenge. “I enjoy building systems,” she says. And anyone who’s worked with her knows, it’s TRUE!
Morgan’s role isn’t one that often gets the spotlight, and she’s perfectly happy with that. Payroll, invoicing, tax filings, and daily operations to make sure the business keeps running: “In an industry that’s pretty creative, my role isn’t,” she laughs. “But I want the administrative and finance worlds to be so streamlined that our crew and clients can be assured we’re putting all our energy into their projects- and that we’ve got it right!” Morgan has built her career on delivering exceptional customer experiences and brings that mindset of excellence to every process she touches. “We should be proud of the work we’re doing. I want the whole team to be proud of the experience we provide our clients, as much as the end product.”
When asked what part of her job she enjoys way too much, she knows immediately: “Analyzing data. I LOVE a spreadsheet.” To her, they’re not just numbers – they’re a window into the health of the whole business. “When the business is doing well, we can better support our crew. Happy crew means happy clients, which means more business. It’s a cycle.” There’s a real thoughtfulness in how she reads that data too. “I look 12 steps ahead, down the road a year or three. Things show up in the data and only a very few people see the whole picture. I enjoy the process of teasing out what the story is, where the challenges are, and where the opportunities to improve it are.
When chaos inevitably comes, Morgan’s reset ritual is simple: clean the desk, water the plants, breathe. “I just take a physical and mental reset,” she says. Then she’s back at it. Taking her dog (and Chuckanut’s official greeter) Gina, out for a stroll helps too!
Her leadership philosophy follows the same spirit of care. She doesn’t want to just solve problems for people -she wants to help them build tools to solve their own. “I want to instill resourcefulness in the people I work with.” It’s the kind of support that quietly makes everyone around her better. Morgan isn’t chasing individual accolades. “I’m not as motivated by personal success as I am by group success. I love my coworkers and want us to be proud of what we accomplish together.” Building a home is one of the most personal things someone can do, and Morgan knows every detail matters, even from behind the scenes.
Importantly, for Morgan, it’s not all hard work and no play. When asked what her theme song would be, she says’ “Work” by Rianna. Clearly, Morgan takes both her job – and a great playlist seriously.
