Should I Remodel or Move?

We’re regularly asked, “Should we remodel or move?”. The answer is rarely straightforward. Some houses are better candidates for remodeling than others. This can be based on their structural integrity, location, and potential for valuable improvement.

Sometimes, moving a wall in a house, particularly an older home, becomes an unexpected can of worms. Building codes and materials have changed significantly, and for the better, over the years. For example, we no longer use newspaper as insulation. We’ve seen it all!

To know if remodeling is the right choice for you, you’ll want to first consider if your home is a good candidate and if you have the time and energy to take it on. We help people navigate this difficult decision all the time.

Houses that are generally good candidates meet the following criteria:
-It’s in a good location (for YOU),
-It’s structurally sound,
-It has features or layouts that could use an update,
-It has an architectural character that you’d like to preserve.

If these are true for your house, the next step is to consider if you’re prepared to invest the of time, energy, and money that a remodel inevitably will take. We focus on building durable, healthy homes. The architects and designers we work with are pros at incorporating eco-friendly materials into your remodel design. For example, adding insulation (interior and exterior) or new windows will positively impact a home’s comfort and durability.
